Center for Housing Opportunity

The Center for Housing Opportunity (CHO) is a non-profit that works to produce and preserve affordable housing in Connecticut by forming strategic partnerships with groups from other sectors like social services, healthcare, education, and business. I developed messaging and advocacy material that CHO and its partners can use to build more public support for affordable housing in Litchfield County and Eastern Connecticut (New London, Tolland, and Windham Counties). In addition, I redesigned the organization’s website in February 2024.

Housing in Connecticut is scarce and expensive. The state has one of the lowest rental vacancy rates and some of the highest rates of racial and economic segregation. Still, affordable housing advocates struggle to rally support for their cause, often because of widespread negative stereotypes about what affordable housing is, who lives there, and how it contributes to a community. In partnership with CHO, I developed messaging playbooks designed to help advocates change the way they communicate about affordable housing, break down negative narratives, and build consensus around making positive change locally and regionally.
