Vintage Vibes

This mix reflects my growing passion for house, trip-hop, funk, and jazz from the late 1990s and early 2000s. Most of these tunes were sourced from CDs I’ve found over the last 18 months, including compilations like "Beats & Pieces Volume 1" curated by Peter Adarkwah and released on Barely Breaking Even Records, or "Manhattan Lounge" curated by DJ Cer and released on Moist Music.

While few of these songs can credibly be considered “rare groove,” I compiled this mix in the spirit of that style. Rare groove is a label applied to music that is hard to source and relatively obscure. It’s primarily associated with funk, R&B and jazz funk while also connected to subgenres including jazz rock and Latin jazz. The ethos behind the style is about resurfacing old gems for new audiences.
